During the late 1890s, rootstocks were imported from Europe and trials commenced at both Davis and Kearny. In Australia, the first grafted vines were used in NSW and in Victoria from 1903 ─ the main rootstocks available at the time were ARG1, du Lot, 1202, 3306C & 3309C
